Huay Kaew Waterfall

Huay Kaew Waterfall is the closest waterfall to Chiang Mai city. It is located at the bottom of the mountain where Huay Kaew Road ends, and is next to Chiang Mai Zoo. The waterfall is free to enter and good for both children and adults. You can climb on the waterfall and there are small pools of water to dip in. In December and January, the water can be very cold, but the rest of the year the water temperature is refreshing.

Things to Do at Huay Kaew Waterfall

Huay Kaew Waterfall is a good place to spend the day or an afternoon. You can take a picnic blanket or you can rent a bamboo mat for 20 baht. There’s an easy hiking trail that starts to the right of the waterfall and leads all the way up to Wang Bua Ban Viewpoint. Huay Kaew Waterfall has water most of the year, with April-June being the driest months.

The waterfall is easy to access and there is a car park outside of the entrance, with vendors selling drinks snacks and fruit. Next to the car park is Kruba Srivichai Monument – a small Buddhist shrine, with a line of Buddha statues to represent each day of the week. The area smells like flowers and incense, and is very colourful.
